What's in a Name?

Source

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."
- Shakespeare in Romeo and Juliet

I know it’s a cliché, but how else do I start explaining the name “Knotical Adventures” for a blog?

Ok, let me first direct you to the dictionary’s definition of “knitting”: 1. To form into a knot, or into knots; to tie together, as cord; to fasten by tying. 2. To form, as a textile fabric, by the interlacing of yarn or thread in a series of connected loops, by means of needles, either by hand or by machinery; as, to knit stockings. 3. To join; to cause to grow together. The first definition explains the play on the word “knotical.” Who knew knitting and forming knots mean the same thing.

And why “adventure?” While I’ve learned to crochet way back in my tween years, I consider myself primarily a knitter and would like to be known as such. There are still a few areas in knitting in which I have yet to explore, am currently improving my skills in crocheting and have barely begun making bobbin laces, so I consider this process of learning these various types of needlework as a journey or an “adventure” of sorts.

I originally had plans to call this blog “All Tied Up in Knots—Adventures in Fiberarts” since fibers have a way of making knots in and of itself but my eldest, Sam Jr., in a text, suggested shortening the name to its current one. Indeed, a big improvement over the first and, may I add, just as sweet, don’t you think?
